We’re having upgrade problems with wordpress, so this blog might sometimes go down. Don’t worry, we’re not dead yet. Meanwhile, we’re putting our finishing touches on Volume 6 so we can finally release it, half a year after it was published.

Cheburashka update

Alva’s busy these days, so I’m going to be the one writing the post. The first two of these had been released for a while already, just nobody cared to mention that in a blog:

Not recruiting anymore: timer, editor

Hi guys. It seems we’re in a (desperate need of able editors and timer. Editing means reading the translation, paraphrasing anything that sounds bad, clarifying anything that’s not clear enough, consulting with translators when you have doubts about changing the line, fixing mistakes and typos and so on. This is not as easy as it might look like, and it actually requires sufficient work on your side (it’s not just “yeah, I’ve read it and understood almost everything, it’s good to go”). Timing implies at least rough timing, fine timing optionally, typesetting not required (we have an excellent typesetter, Tai, already).

The only quality we look for, aside from being able to do what’s written above, is the ability and will to work and get the episodes done.

UPD: Though non-natives with perfect knowledge of english are theoretically fine too, you’ll probably have to try hard to convince us in your skills. (If you have an experience of working as editor in another group, for example, that’s a different story). Native speakers are preferable.

The show is not dropped nor it will be, but the editing takes a while since everybody’s busy, some guys are on vacations, some have other things to do (Alva: and some are just lazy bitches who don’t care about releases). Please excuse us for constant delays.

What are we going to do next:

1. We will (probably) sub episodes 1-9 of sorakake. We will do it at a much slower pace though, something like one episode in a three weeks or one in a month. In other words, there’s obviously no need to wait for us if you’re watching the series from the beginning, as there are good translations for those episodes from strikes and other subbers

2. We might re-release episodes 10-15 and further fixing various mistakes, if we have enough time and resolve to do that. But we promise nothing.

3. We will definitely sub additional materials such as PD, and this will be a priority.

4. Sure, we’ll release sorakake batch soon.

6. As for BMG -> ru, we’re working on it, expect news in a week or so.

1. Мы, скорее всего, будем делать русские и английские сабы к сериям 1-9 соракаке, но делать мы их будем медленно. Штуку в три недели, штуку в месяц.

PS ищем человека, который будет заниматься адаптацией тайпсета для русаба к БМГ. т.е. требуется корректировать положение надписей и искать шрифты с кириллицей, похожие по стилю на имеющиеся с латиницей.

First, if captions and titles do not display properly (some of them are abruptly cut), install the latest version of directvobsub/vsfilter. Alternatively, you can just install the latest CCCP, directvobsub is included in there.

Second, as correctly pointed out by anon, CRC in the title of Episode 21, 720p release should read “0BCE47E3″ instead of “BCE47E3″.

English editors wanted

II-subs is looking for english-speaking editor or, better to say, editor/co-translator. I’ll explain briefly how it works.

Both of our translators are russians and while we have some knowledge of english, as you may see since I’m writing this, our dictionary is narrower than those of people with native english knowledge and we might make errors sometimes (ha-ha, or even often). So we write initial translation making comments where needed, explaining the meaning of the sentences, providing literal translation or suggesting different wordings. Then editors come into play and fix the errors, paraphraze lines to make them sound better, check that the suggested translation has the intended meaning, etc.
That’s harder than your usual editing, obviously.

We currently have two active editors, spiralbro and lolwat, but since anything can happen and anybody might be busy and unavailable for a while, plus splitting the duties reduces the amount of work on each editor, plus where one editor doesn’t know what to do, another will think of something, etc etc, because of all of that it’s better to have a third editor to help the current ones.

If you’re interested, here’s what you’ll need to have:
1. A good knowledge of english language (though I’m not the one to lecture you here, ha-ha)
2. A habit of being responsible and staying in touch (and actually editing something when needed!).
We’ll appreciate your help.

As a side note, episode 18 is going to be released in a short while. The absence of pic is unrelated.
